The magic behind an ONT 

Meet the little device that completely changes your internet experience: the ONT. What exactly is an ONT?

In fancy terms, the ONT stands for Optical Network Terminal. All that really means is a little magical box which turns fibre optic light signs into the electrical signal your router understands and provides the full-fibre internet connection you love. ONT’s come in different sizes and colours, but they all do the same functions. When your engineer turns up for your installation, they will connect your ONT to your wall to bring in the fibre cables.

The magic switch in an ONT

We’ve talked a bunch about fibre optic cables, traditional copper cables (which have been around ever since we can remember), and how you deserve a better connection than from the 90s. The ONT slots right into this equation, as it lets fibre-to-the-premises happen! It means that the Lit Fibre team can install your ONT and provide a full-fibre connection to your home. We like to think of our ONT as a form of art in the world of internet – it uses light signals to bring your household rock-solid full-fibre.  

I recently had new fibre broadband installed by Lit Fibre, replacing my old Virgin Media connection, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Arrived on time and installed the ONT exactly where I wanted it. Ran the fibre neatly to the junction box, maintaining a tidy workspace and respecting my home throughout the process. The entire installation was completed in just over an hour, and the broadband speeds are fantastic.
