Welcome to Uni: Your internet connection survival guide

Congrats on starting university! You’ve packed your bags, moved into your accommodation, and probably spent a small fortune on new tech gear. Is that a shiny new MacBook you’re reading this on? But, before you kick back and enjoy student life, there’s one little detail that you can’t afford to overlook: your internet connection. Seriously, having a reliable internet is a big deal, just take it from us. So, kick back and relax because Lit Fibre has got some real pearls of knowledge for you.

Turnitin issues

Let’s kick things off with Turnitin. You’ve slaved away on your assignment, writing the perfect paragraphs, and just as you’re about to hit submit, your WiFi decides to take a coffee break. Imagine. That’s when the forever-on-end super-annoying wheel of buffering appears, and you’re left praying your internet comes back to life just minutes till the deadline. Save yourself the extra stress! Pro tip: Before submitting, always run a speed test on your internet connection and consider hardwiring your device to the router for that extra boost of reliability.

Enjoying your free time

After a long day of lectures and trying to remember the difference between seminars and lectures, all you want is some downtime with social media. You’re ready for some downtime and catch up with friends, but your internet has other plans. Instead of scrolling, you’re staring at a loading screen, desperately refreshing your feed like it’s a magic eight ball. Pro tip: Make sure your router is placed in a central location away from walls or obstructions. With so many people in your accommodation, connections can get strained when everyone is using the internet at once (not our Lit Fibre connection, of course). Do yourself a favour and search around for the router to move it around if needed. You’ll thank us later!

Endless lecture buffering

You’re ready for your online lectures, coffee in hand, but just as your lecturer starts, your WiFi decides to cut in and out. Instead of focusing on key points, you’re stuck staring at frozen faces. Pro tip: If your connection keeps dropping, try using an Ethernet cable to connect directly to the router. That way, you’re getting internet connection straight to your laptop, cutting out all the other things which could be slowing you down.

Thinking about your internet?

If you’re in a house share, it’s worth looking around to see if there’s better options out there (and better value for money). We don’t want to brag toooo much, but Lit Fibre has got a range of top-notch full-fibre packages, available for all.
