The truth about your internet experiences: our findings

Let's face it, a bad internet connection can be a real headache. There’s nothing more annoying than when the dreaded buffer wheel appears. Don't even get us started on trying to work from home and having to present during an important work call with a dodgy internet connection.

So, we decided to do a bit of research to find out what people really think about their current internet. We’ve surveyed over 2,000 people and we're spilling the beans on the findings.

From work to entertainment, internet is a necessity

In today’s day and age, having a solid internet connection isn’t a luxury, but a necessity. In fact, 93% of people we spoke to agreed that having reliable internet is essential to the running of their household.

Why are people overpaying and settling for broadband services that essentially make their lives harder every day? An average household will have around seven devices connected at any one time, so it’s never been more important to make sure you get internet done properly. It’s bad enough having one lagging device, but seven is a nightmare...

The truth about broadband providers and full-fibre

We found that almost half of the broadband users we spoke to are unsure if their provider is giving them their promised internet speeds. Many homes that are still connected via part fibre that physically cannot give you the speed you have been promised due to the way they are connected and most likely have other factors interfering. We found 22% shared that they have no idea what full-fibre is, however, it can make your internet nightmares turn into an internet dream!

But, what exactly is the difference between part fibre and full-fibre? Part-fibre normally uses fibre optic cables to a street cabinet, then old copper cables to your home which deteriorates the speeds – the further away from the cabinet you are the slower and unreliable your connection can get. With full-fibre, it’s your own dedicated fibre-optic cable straight to your home giving you ultrafast speeds regardless of where you are on the street. There is a bit more to it, so we’ve put together a helpful article to share the ins and outs of full-fibre to help you get up to speed.

You may be thinking that upgrading to full-fibre could drain your bank account each month? When speaking to people about their current broadband, 56% thought that having fibre broadband is more expensive than their current package. But, here’s the thing, at Lit Fibre we’ve got packages to suit all budgets and households! After all, everyone deserves to have internet done properly.

Lit Fibre cares about making everyday a little smoother

You know the feeling of when you're all cosy, snacks in hand, ready to binge-watch your latest show, only to be interrupted by an unstable connection? Well, according to our research, 42% have experienced this exact frustration.

Having to repeat “sorry, my internet cut out” on yet another video call has got to be one of the most annoying things while working from home. We found that 36% say that this is a common annoyance in their households. Catching up on social media has become a staple in some of our daily lives, yet 25% claim slow internet speeds can quickly turn a quick scroll into a tedious task. We’re here to make your lives that little bit smoooother by taking these annoying moments and turning them into a distant memory.

Making the switch to the future of connectivity

One in 10 people are constantly frustrated with their internet – save yourself the hassle of switching your router on and off hoping it will fix the never ending issue. When it comes to lightning-fast full-fibre, your internet flows straight into your home, so there’s no room for game lag or disturbed movie nights.

We asked our respondents what reasons would motivate them to change their broadband provider. Just under half explained that they would make the switch if faster internet speeds were offered. On top of that, 53% mentioned that they would change providers if it meant that less money was flowing out of their bank account each month.
