Before we begin, what is an upload anyway?
Put simply, an upload is anything that you’re sending out to the internet and it’s usually measured in megabits per second (Mbps). For instance, the video and audio in your work call, your latest getaway photos on Instagram, sending out emails and attachments, sharing your screen on Zoom, your Dropbox and Google Drive, and so on and so on...
Why upload speed matters?
We don’t have to tell you twice how important it is to have an internet connection you can actually rely on. Especially when you’re running short on time when working from home to get something sorted quick or simply need a quick answer to your Google Search, you just want your internet to cooperate.
Typically, when searching for broadband contracts, most people look at download speeds (and price of course), but, upload speeds are just as important. Normally, upload speeds are much slower than download speeds – but not on our watch. At Lit Fibre, we offer all our customers symmetrical speeds, which means that both your upload and download speeds are equally as ultra-speedy. Oh, and it just so happens that we’ve got price packages to suit every household too.
Let’s dig into some of the benefits of great upload speeds
A smoother and efficient online experience for all
Get the things you need to get done faster with lightning-fast loading times
Skip past those annoying lags or delays on whatever you’re doing
Have a smooooth video connection with perfect video and audio, always in tune
File sharing has never been easier, even with large documents of a whole photo album onto social media
How do you check your upload speed?
The easiest and simplest way of finding out what’s going on with your internet is through an online speed tester, like Ookla. From here, you’ll get all the metrics for your upload and download speed, as well as ping. Plus, when you’re on a Lit Fibre connection, our handy My Lit Fibre App lets you do all this in just a few taps.
How to improve your upload speed?
There’s a few little tips and tricks that you could try at home to improve upload speeds on your device. To start, close off any programs or tabs that are running in the background, but you’re not really using to help things run smoother. Especially games and video streaming working in the background can really strain your upload speeds, so keep a look out for these!
Also, if your upload speed is a bit down, have a look at how many devices you’ve got connected to your network. Each device is sharing a slice of your internet bandwidth and might be spread a bit thinly. It might be worth disconnecting those unused devices while you upload them files to help speed things along.
If this is still not helping your case, it may be worth trying out a wired connection and connecting to your device directly to the router. After all, your WiFi can get interrupted by placement or some items in your home – more on this here. However, sometimes the most straightforward and best way of improving your upload speed and your general internet experience is just to upgrade your internet plan. Lit Fibre is the way to go to get internet done properly, find out if we’re around in your area.
