Gone are the days of copper internet lines – What that means for you?

Gone are the days of copper internet lines – What that means for you?

The copper cabling from decades ago and part-fibre internet is making their way out. With the rise of fibre-optic technologies, broadband providers are opting for newer technologies and cutting out copper lines. With more and more smart devices being connected at home, people are looking at internet not only as a ‘nice to have’, but an absolute must for the household. But, what does it mean for internet users when copper internet lines will be dumped in the UK? Let’s get to it.

The update for copper internet lines

Exciting things in the world of full-fibre! The UK government has an ambitious goal to have every home in the UK have the option to pick full-fibre broadband by 2025. We can’t wait for so many people to experience better internet and being part of that is something we’re really proud of. This means that one year down the line, we’ll no longer need copper cabling and part-fibre broadband!

After all, this same technology has been around since the 90’s... So, why are some homes still using it? After all, quite a bit has changed since the 90s and it’s important to move with the times and upgrade the technology we use. Full-fibre is absolutely the way to go about future-proofing your home with a connection that doesn't compromise.

What does this mean for internet consumers?

It’s good news! Full-fibre will give you more choice and make it easier to find a package that works for you. You won't have to settle for internet anymore, because your newly installed full-fibre set-up works straight from your home. That means no more compromises on speed, reliability, connected devices, or anything else really. It means lightning-fast internet where everything just works in a blink of an eye.

Plus, you will be able to finally disconnect your telephone lines and free up some space. It’s for the better too, since you’ve probably not used your landline in the past few years anyway! More on that in this article.
