The big fibre rollout: When will full-fibre be available in my area?

Having a solid connection and internet that works is a non-negotiable now. Whether you’re working from home, going on an Amazon shopping spree, or streaming a live video, you need internet that has got your back. That’s where full-fibre can save the day, but there’s some areas where full-fibre isn’t available just yet. That’s exactly what we’ll be talking about in this little article.

A little reminder about full-fibre broadband

Full-fibre broadband or Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), is a newer type of broadband connection that allows your internet connection to run smoooothly. Using fibre-optic cabling makes all the difference because your internet data is transmitted in lightning-fast speeds (literally, it transmits at the speed of light). Pretty impressive, right?

Plus, your connection goes straight from your home, so if anything was to ever happen with the street cabinet, your home will still have your full-fibre connection like nothing ever happened. It gives you the perfect set-up for streaming, binge-watching, gaming, working from home, not working from home, or anything else for that matter. Now that you’re all clued up about full-fibre, why not put your knowledge to the test and see if you can become a Jargon Busting Wizard?

Where the UK is at with rolling out full-fibre?

By 2025, all of the UK should be able to get full-fibre connected to their home. Sounds dreamy? It’s a target set by the UK government and it’s great to see internet being looked at seriously! After all, there’s only so much buffering, lagging, and choppy audio that one person can take. However, Ofcom claims that as of 2023, 57% homes in the UK have access to full-fibre broadband – which is something we’re tackling with day by day.

Rolling our full-fibre broadband is happening at different speeds in different towns. Say for instance, London and Manchester have widespread coverage, and even a few providers covering similar areas. But, when it comes to more remote areas, getting the right infrastructure in place for full-fibre to get set-up takes quite a bit of time. That’s where some alt-net broadband providers step in and take on the role to bring better internet to even the smaller towns and cities. A big part of the work we do at Lit Fibre, is put a huge amount of effort into getting the right full-fibre set-up to bring those full-fibre connections to your homes.

When will Lit Fibre be available in my area?
