Switching broadband providers: What you need to know before contacting your provider

So, you’ve had enough and you’re thinking about switching broadband providers? We’ve all been on the phone for hours on hold, waiting to connect to the right person to help you make a small change.

That’s why we’ve created a top tip guide on all the things you can expect many broadband providers to say and try to tie you into another contract. We want to save you from the headache, so we’ve listed the most common broadband providers along with their customer support team contacts.

Common half-truths about switching broadband

After you’ve been on hold to your current internet provider and you finally get through to someone, the Customer Support team will often offer you ‘special’ discounts to encourage you to stay in your contract. But, it’s important to shop around before you stick to your current provider, because there might just be an even better internet deal out there that works for you and your home.

On top of that, many providers will try to scare you away with a complicated process to get you thinking “is this really worth the hassle”. But really, there’s no reason why the Customer Support team can’t unbundle your package to make sure you get the best deals for your internet, TV, and phone. Plus, you can take control of your internet and have the flexibility to find what works for you, all whilst saving your hard-earned pennies.

Making the switch from your current broadband provider

One thing we always recommend is to hold off from cancelling your current broadband until your new one is up and running smoothly. Trust us, this way you’re always connected and don’t have to worry about when you’ll get your internet back. Plus, you’ll halve your time on the phone and skip past all the temporary upgrades they’d like to offer you. It’s one of the ways that the well-known broadband providers try to get you stuck in their contract.

Before you make the call, make sure you’ve got all the details about your current contract – you would receive all the information upon signing up, and visible on your online profile. It’s worth making a note of your contract number and check your contract end date before you pick up the phone. We’ve got a whole page about how to switch with all the details.

When it comes to most broadband providers, you’ll need to give them 30 days’ notice before you switch. Remember that if you’ve been hit with surprise price hikes mid-way through your contract, you might be able to skip past the notice or any early termination fees.

But, if you’re still in contract but want to switch over to Lit Fibre and want to experience internet done properly, make sure to give us a call on 0330 460 4610 and we’ll see what we can do for you!
